We have really been enjoying our weekly 'Big Write' sessions this year. Here are some examples of the wonderful writing we've been producing...

Daredevil.

Gunther shouted to me, "Kick, let go, jump!" My heart was thumping more violently than an earthquake. Suddenly, I remembered who I was. Kick Buttowski, Suburban Daredevil: the man who paraglided across the Grand Canyon; the man who surfed down Niagara Falls; the man who skateboarded (or rather ironing boarded) down Dead Man's Drop. It was unbelievable really.
That split-second, I thought... I could do this.
"Right, here is the plan," said my trusty old sidekick, Gunther. "You jump out of this 15000ft high plane, unleash your parachute after freefalling for around 5 seconds, float down and receive a Guinness World Record - WITHOUT killing yourself!" That was Gunther!
I took a deep breath and dipped out. I was scarcely breathing. I could hear my heart thumping throughout all of the noise of the wind! I was travelling at break-neck speed, faster than a Peregrine Falcon! Suddenly, I felt my soul ripping at my chest as I tried to release the parachute, realising these might be my last moments.
I plunged, plummeting to my death. Down down down down down. Suddenly I woke up. My eyes opened. They looked alive. I was only 30 seconds from death. I acted fast, grabbing the cord and tugging. 15 seconds. "Arms, keep pulling," I heard my brain say. 10 seconds and believe it or not... lastminute.com, I felt a WOOSH and began to slow down.
The shouts from below were faint. I was dreamy. I felt peaceful. I remembered those thrilling and exhilarating moments, that would stay with me forever. I'd survived and no one could argue with that.
Suddenly, my feet touched down. I was so used to not standing up that I almost fell on my bum! But I kept my cool. Excitedly, a GWR judge came over and said: Pretty impressive stuff up there. I proudly present you this certificate."
"Chimi Chunga!" I shouted, thinking to change my catchphrase.

Daredevil.

Tip toeing towards the edge of the cliff, I was just about ready to launch myself off the edge. Fear was running through my brain."Is the scrap of spring going to keep me from dying?" I asked myself. However, the atmosphere was electrifying.
Now, an inch from the edge, I was so nervous. My heart was pounding. The edge was here; people had strapped me in everywhere they could. Would I ever survive? I couldn't say. My teeth were bouncing up and down one after another. My head had spun around like a merry go round. 5- 4- 3- 2- 1. All the emotions had just hit me. "GO!"...
"Ahh!" I screamed. I was speechless. It was so daunting, yet exciting. I couldn't believe the scrap had kept me up. "Ahh!" it was a miracle. The Bungee jump was so joyful; I could recommend it to anyone.
"Ahh!" once again I screamed. All the emotions had been just washed away. It was unbelievable, fantastic, overwhelming! Such fun! "Ahh, ahh and ahh!" it was amazing and like a dream come true...
As I was coming to the end of an experience of a lifetime, all I could think about was why I was so nervous at the start. The platform was getting closer and closer. 3-2-1, spring. "Wow"! I had just sprung back up. It was so exciting: the feeling was electric. My time was nearly up, however I didn't want my dream to end too soon. It was extraordinary.
My feet were inches from the edge from the platform. Finally I reached it. The experience had been sensational. Amazing. I could go on for hours and hours about how incredible it was.
Was it the best day of my life? Of course it was!

Daredevil.

All of a sudden I jumped out of the plane. I stopped screaming and thought why am I doing this? And then I remembered. I got dared!
All of a sudden I tugged on the lever to put my parachute up. Now I was scared. Actually no I was petrified! I didn't know what to do. My parachute was not working. Ahhhhhhhh!
"Oh no!" I screamed. I was almost about to crash. I gave one last pull with my eyes shut. I heard a load of flapping then poff! I looked up: my parachute! I gave a sigh of happiness.
Then I looked down. I could see the floor. I was going down, down and down. Suddenly I felt relaxed, then I could feel my feet touching the ground. I had people to the left and right and they were calling my name. I'd broken a new world record!
I woke up happy. But then I realised it was all a dream.
I thought to myself, I'm going to do that some day.
Will I?...

Our first topic this year was 'Meet the Greeks'...

We became archaeologists for the afternoon, piecing together pictures of ancient Greek pots (which wasn't as easy as we thought it would be). Then, by studying the way they were decorated, we tried to guess what they might have been used for.

We also designed our own Greek pots...
