Our Work
Queen Anne Boleyn was the second wife of Henry VIII. She was executed at the Tower of London. Henry allowed her to import an expert from France to execute her. She said, 'I heard say the executioner was very good and I have a little neck.' The executioner used a special sword to behead Anne Boleyn.
Class 7 have made their own beheading swords!
As well as making swords, we have been busy improving our writing. Here are some pieces of work from our weekly 'Big Write' lessons...
Aimee has used speech marks in her writing...
"Hello my name is Aimee and I think that dark is WONDERFUL! I think it is because you can have bonfires and you can have lovely fireworks too."
"Well I still don't like it AT ALL!" shouted Plop.
"Why, Father Christmas wouldn't come and you would have no presents on Christmas Day," I explained.
"Who's Father Christmas?" Plop asked.
"He's a man that has a beard and he wears red clothes and black boots," I explained. "Here, hang this up on Christmas Eve," I said with excitement because it was nearly Christmas.
"Oh OK," said Plop. "But I still don't like the dark AT ALL!"
"But why don't you? You're a barn owl. That means you sleep in the day and come out at night."
"WELL MAYBE I DON'T WANT TO BE A BARN OWL!" Plop shouted. "Because I'm afraid of the dark."
Ellysia has used the features of a report in a letter to someone needing information about hedgehogs...
Dear Molly,
Thank you for your letter. Here is a report about hedgehogs to help you with your project at school.
All About Hedgehogs.
A hedgehog is a small animal with a thick coat of sharp spines.
What they eat.
Hedgehogs are omnivores. They eat caterpillars, earthworms, millipedes, earwigs, bird eggs, small dead mammals, slugs, snails and beetles.
Where they live.
They live in Europe, Asia, Africa and sometimes they live in New Zealand. They live on land. There are 15 species of hedgehogs. Hedgehogs can live in burrows with lots of grass, leaves and mud.
What they do when they're scared.
When hedgehogs are scared they curl up into balls which show their spikes.
What would you do if you found a hedgehog?
You should take good care of it. But never give it milk or bread because it will get an upset tummy. Keep it warm and healthy.
What dangers they get in to.
If a mummy hedgehog gets stressed out she could kill one of her babies. A hedgehog can swim but it could drown.
How many spikes does a hedgehog have?
A hedgehog has 5000 spikes.
Yours sincerely,
Ellysia Anslow.
James has described events using the first person...
Yesterday night my mum kissed me goodnight. But then I heard a sound and it made me get out of my bed. Also it made me open the curtains. But you wouldn't believe what I saw. I saw a family of barn owls talking to each other. Then I saw a baby barn owl fall out of a tree. Also the baby barn owl came out of the tree like a furball. It was actually a baby barn owl. Then I could see a bonfire in the very far distance.
More writing with speech marks. This time, by Sophie...
"What is your name? My name is Sophie" said Sophie.
"Plop" replied Plop.
"How old are you?" replied Sophie.
"One," replied Plop. "How old are you?" asked Plop.
"Seven," replied Sophie.
"What do owls eat?" asked Sophie.
" Owl food," replied Plop.
"What are you doing out in the dark?"
"I don't know I am scared of it."
"But dark is marvellous," replied Sophie. "I will tell you about it. Dark is marvellous because without it Father Christmas would not come to fill your stocking."
"I don't have a stocking," said Plop.
"Here you go hang this up on Christmas Eve," said Sophie.
