Investigating Habitats at Dungeness - July 2009

Archives

On Thursday 2nd July, classes 7 and 8 travelled to Dungeness Nature Reserve and took part in a range of activities linked to their class work on habitats.
When we got to the reserve the children watched a presentation all about the different types of wildlife that could be found on the reserve and learnt about the history of the Marsh. Afterwards, the children enjoyed using a range of equipment while bird watching and pond dipping, trying to identify what they had found. They found so many creatures, from water mites to water scorpions.
They were also treated to a close encounter with moths as they saw the wide variety of colours and sizes of moths in the local area. With the help of local guides the children were taken through a number of habitats and some groups found out about food chains in an exciting quiz.
A brilliant and informative day for all!
