Kent R.F.U. Tag Rugby Finals 2010.

On Thursday 9th June the tag rugby team went to Aylesford Rugby Club for the Kent Festival. Each school was given a country to represent; ours was Australia. Shortly after we arrived we had to display our country's national dress and present a banner that we had made.
Afterwards we all went to our pitches and the games got underway. Our first game was against Argentina; it was a very tight game, but Greatstone were strong enough to defeat them with a 9-7 victory.
Next we faced Spain, which was also a tough game, and always tight, but by the narrowest of margins, Spain won 8-7.
Our final fixture in the group stages was against India. Again it was another really tight game, with everyone from Greatstone giving all their effort, but unfortunately we lost 5-7.
We finished 4th in our pool so we were entered in the Shield competition with other teams that came fourth. Our first game was against Brazil; we played brilliantly and won 8-5.
In the semi finals we played South Africa. It was a very close game and it eventually ended 7-7. This meant that we had to go to a 'Golden Try' situation, similar to a penalty shootout. Unfortunately we lost and came third in the shield.
However, we did end up winning the fancy dress competition!
We had a great day out and Greatstone played magnificently. Thank you to everyone that was involved.

Summer League 2010

The tag rugby team came so close to being league champions for the second year running, finishing equal first on points but narrowly missing out on the title which came down to the number of tries scored!

Congratulations to all the players for a well deserved second place. They have played consistently well over the last five weeks, notching up 12 wins, 2 draws and only one defeat. Magnificent!

Kent Tag Rugby Festival 2010

Greatstone's tag rugby team got the season off to a great start, winning the first round of the Kent Tag Rugby Festival 2010 on Tuesday 13th October.
The tournament was held at Folkestone Rugby Club.
Greatstone played a total of six matches during the afternoon. In the first round we won three and drew one, sending us through to the semi-final, where we beat St. Eanswythe's 4 - 2. In an exciting final, we managed to beat Elham 7 - 3. This means that we will represent Shepway in June 2010 at the finals.
Congratulations to all our players - many of whom are new to the team this year. They can be really proud of themselves!

Summer League 2009

Congratulations to Greatstone's tag rugby team, which has won this year's Shepway league!
The team played sixteen matches at five separate meetings and finished the season undefeated - the first time this has ever happened in the league. Fantastic!
